BACKSTORY

Solo Traveler is about traveling alone, as the name would suggest. Trending towards imagination, however, the story is really about traveling alone within one’s self. Exploring that grand, never-ending map of our soul with maybe some heart/head baggage to manage along the way.

In this 100% original americana-blues inspired sung-through story, we meet a Traveler challenged to hear what direction to travel with all of the noisy suggestions from the outside world shouting directions. Is our own life map really our own? Delving into where we want to go, Solo Traveler explores the space before the destination and the courage to listen to our inner compass, despite our doubts and shoulds.

It’s interesting that “destination” sounds like destiny nation - the country of destiny. This story, then, is set in authenticity, destiny’s capital.

STORY

Stuck at the crossroads of a car-app pick-up place at an airport somewhere between self-inflicted responsibility and over-it, we find our Traveler. And they can’t wait to go home. Exhausted from using travel days and vacations on weddings, work events, and other people, our Traveler begins chatting with someone else waiting for their own pick-up. Stories of past trips bubble to the surface - solo birthdays on forest trails, getting lost and found in Togo, realizing a blue stone is very important after the fact. But all those are in the past, the present purgatory is just a reflection of the Traveler who used to love travel.

What if today they decide to…go? As the courage to follow directions from within start to emerge, the climactic rush of trusting internal arrows, heart compasses, and soul maps makes for hard lessons and a feeling of weakness. But then, all the sudden, on the other side, we find that all along, what this Traveler was actually feeling was strength of self.
